I would close the pubs, clubs at 15 minutes past 12 on New Year's eve, just after the 'auld langs syne' bollocks. The police, nurses, doctors, ambulance crew would be so grateful!!

Not religious so don't "do" Xmas, and have never regarded the "New Year" as anything other than just another day.
Don't need an excuse to get pissed, either.
I guess the only plus is that the utter bilge that now passes for TV programmes & programming has a theme for a few weeks.

Food, drinks, open fires, roasting chestnuts, snow outside, lords dancing, geese, bells, good will, common people, driving home, king Wenceslas, wise men, decking halls, baby Jesus, quiet nights, evergreen trees and wassailing.

It's the two-month Christmas run-up that gets me.
I hate Christmas by the time it pitches up.
About halfway through I realise it's not so bad.

Got no kids so don't really do xmas and new year is no different to the other 364 midnights in the year, but I fucking love drinking and it's a superb time for getting fucked up for an entire month.
Just the actual days that are a bit shit.
